what we do
The Foundation was formed by residents of the Shadow Wood communities who had, in 2004 through 2012, organized and conducted fundraisers benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties, raising over $1.1 million for that organization.
Following the 2012 fundraiser, a decision was made to expand the communities’ activities to support other local charities serving those in need in the area. After forming a corporation in June 2012, the Foundation obtained its IRS section 501(c)(3) qualification as a public charity in September 2012.
The Foundation's principal fundraising activity is an annual golf tournament, coupled with a raffle and live and silent auctions at Shadow Wood Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida. This activity also includes solicitation of contributions from individuals and businesses. The fundraising activity is conducted by volunteers, led principally by the residents of Shadow Wood at The Brooks and Shadow Wood Preserve communities.
In the six years of its existence, the Foundation’s fundraising efforts enabled it to make grants to local charities and set aside funds for scholarships that together aggregated over $1,924,000, including over $550,000 in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2018. Many residents of the Shadow Wood communities are active in serving and leading the supported charities.
